McNeely Leads Second-Place Bulldogs After Day 1 of Don Benbow Spring Invitational

Butler stands in second after the opening day of the Don Benbow Spring Invitational, which the Bulldogs are hosting at Highland Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis.
 
The Bulldogs improved 12 shots from Monday's opening round to the afternoon 18 as the field battled a chilly day.
 
Butler is at even-par 560 after an afternoon 274 (-6). The Bulldogs shot 286 in the morning. Ball State has the 36-hole lead at 542 (-18). There are 11 teams and 88 players in the field.
 
Connor McNeely leads the Butler charge at four-under 136. His Monday was highlighted by a second-round 65. McNeely had six birdies in the round on the par-70, 6,551-yard course.
 
McNeely was one of six Bulldogs who shot even-par or better in the second round. The list included Raymond Sullivan (67), Will Horne (69), Derek Tabor (69), Leo Zurovac (69), and Henry Quinn (70).
 
McNeely is fourth individually with his 136. His afternoon 65 was paired with a one-over 71 in the morning.

The tournament is named in honor of the late Don Benbow, who was inducted into the Butler Athletics Hall of Fame for his contributions as a standout football student-athlete, golf and football coach, and his time at Butler as an athletics administrator.
