Keane and Hamlin Set to Toe the Line at the NCAA Indoor Championships

Barry Keane and Jesse Hamlin will represent the Butler track and field team this weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. at the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships

The Bulldog duo will be one of seven elite programs competing in the national men's 5,000 and 3,000 meter races. 

Keane is scheduled to toe the line in the 5,000 meters on Friday, March 10 at 10:05 p.m. (Eastern) inside the Albuquerque Convention Center. 

The graduate student from Ireland will compete in the event for the second consecutive year after placing 11th at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships. This season, Keane knocked off nearly four seconds from his previous school record for a time of 13:21.57 was set on Dec. 3. at the Boston University Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener. 

His mark is the ninth-fastest in the elite field of 16 sub-13:30 times. Tennessee's Dylan Jacobs comes in with the best time of the group at 13:11.01. 

In the 3,000 meters, Hamlin is set to compete on Saturday Mar. 11 at 10 p.m. (Eastern). The senior from Fort Wayne, Ind. will appear in his first NCAA championship meet after earning the last spot in the field of 16 runners. 

Hamlin qualified with a time of 7:44.69 at the same meet in Boston. Northern Arizona's Drew Bosley currently holds the top 3,000 meter time at 7:36.42.

The event will be streamed live on ESPN+ while the championships will re-air on ESPNU beginning on Sunday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. (Eastern).
