Azusa Calif. — After a stellar start to the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Butler track and field team continued to see success and improvements in other events on Friday and Saturday.  


Of the five Bulldogs who competed in the 5,000 meters, William Zegarski earned the highest finish in third for the third heat of the invite races. Zegarski broke 14 minutes for the first at 13:47.10 and currently holds the second-fastest 5K time by a freshman in the NCAA.

Simon Bedard followed posting the sixth fastest collegiate time across all the races during the 5,000 meter invite heat one at 13:35.93. Bedard's time currently ranks in the top-15 of the NCAA. 

On the women's side, Mia Beckham broke 16 minutes for the first in the second heat of the 5,000-meter invite race. Her time of 15:58.52 was a new lifetime best and became the third-best in school history.  

In the men's decathlon, Jack Elder secured third with 6743 points. Throughout the competition, Elder earned four new personal bests, including winning the 400 meters at 48.73, securing second in the 100 meters and 110-meter hurdles at 10.96 and 14.95, and placing fourth in the 1500 meters at 4:53.04. 


Other Notable Performances
  • Karmen Koch placed second in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 40.02 meters.
  • Jack McMahon earned fifth in the men's 5,000-meter invite at 13:55.55.
  • Will Minnette came in sixth in the men's 5,000-meter open group A race. His mark of 14:07.52 scratched three seconds from his personal best. 
Up Next:
Butler will split in half from April 21st-22nd as the team returns home to the Hoosier State to face off at the Indiana Invitational while the other half stays in California to compete at the Payton Jordan Invitational.
