@ButlerWLacrosse Falls to UConn on Senior Day

Butler women's lacrosse fell to UConn 22-13 on Saturday. The Bulldogs are now 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the BIG EAST while the Huskies improve to 10-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. 

How it happened 

The Huskies were able to take the lead early in the first with two goals. Kaley Attaway put Butler on the board at the 10:07 mark with a goal. Luci Selander, Ella Squibb, and Leah Rubino all scored consecutive goals to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead at the end of the quarter. Caroline Smith ended the quarter with six saves. 

The second quarter was a high-scoring 15 minutes, with UConn controlling the pace. All four of Butler's shots were on goal, with three of them finding the back of the net. Selander scored her second goal of the game, with Kate Kaptrosky and Lauren Dunne also getting on the board. However, the Huskies had 10 shots on goal, scoring on eight of them. UConn would lead 11-7 at halftime. 

UConn's offense kicked it into high gear in the third quarter, outscoring Butler 8-2. Attaway and Campbell Connors scored the only goals for Butler in the quarter, with UConn scoring the last seven goals to end the third, putting them up 19-9. Butler outscored UConn 4-3 in the fourth quarter with KK Callaghan and Ella Squibb scoring in the quarter. 


Notable Stats 

  • Caroline Smith recorded her fourth game this season with 10+ saves. She also eclipsed 100 saves for her career. 

  • Campbell Connors led the team with three goals, her third hat-trick this season. 

  • Luci Selander earned four points on the day (two goals, two assists). 

  • Ella Squibb and Kaley Attaway each scored two goals. 

  • Lauren Dunne and Leah Rubino each had one goal and seven draw controls. 

  • Rubino is now at 50 career goals. 

  • UConn was led by Kate Shaffer and Rayea Davis, who combined for 11 of the Huskies' 22 goals.
