Scouting Creighton
The Bluejays are 19-15 overall after hosting a pair of games vs. UNLV this week. CU lost 10-7 to the Rebels on Tuesday night, but regrouped for an 8-7 walk-off win on Wednesday. In conference action, Creighton swept St. John's last weekend to move their BIG EAST record to 6-3. The conference schedule opened with Creighton hosting Villanova and winning two of three. Georgetown would then stand strong on their home diamond and record two wins against the visiting Bluejays.
Head Coach Ed Servais is in his 20th season at Creighton. He guided the team to a 31-win campaign in 2022 while collecting his 600th career win. The 2023 club is led by sophomore outfielder Nolan Sailors and Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Jack Grace. Sailors is batting .321 with 11 doubles, three triples and four home runs. Grace is a home run hitter at the DH spot with nine round-trippers in 2023 to lead the team. On the mound, Creighton came into the season with three all-conference talents on the roster. Ryan Windham is having the best year with a 4-1 record to go along with a 3.75 ERA. Over 50.1 innings, Windham has struck out 39 batters and has only issued 16 walks. The team strikeout leader is Dominic Cancellie and the closer is Tommy Steier.
Recent History vs. the Bluejays
Creighton has found success against Butler since the two teams joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2014. The Bluejays are 17-4 against BU and they have not lost to the Bulldogs since 2019. Inclement weather shortened the regular season series between the two clubs in 2021, 2018 and 2017. The 2018 series was shifted to SIUE due to heavy rainfall. Butler's last win came in the final game of the 2019 series 5-0. They split the games at SIUE in 2018 and at Bulldog Park in 2017. Butler's first conference win over CU was game two of the 2015 series.
