Trio of Podium Finishes Highlight @ButlerXCTF at the Fighting Illini Classic

— The Butler track and field team traveled for the Fighting Illini Classic on Saturday inside Demirjian Park. 

The Bulldogs were led by a trio of second place finishes across three different events.

Elsa Rusthoven added on to her stellar start to the outdoor track season by setting a new personal best for her third meet in row. Rusthoven scratched nearly 30 seconds off her previous time in the women's 5,000 meters to place second at 17:07.10. 

In the field, Jack Elder secured the silver in the men's javelin throw with a distance of 42.35 meters. Elder also added a new lifetime best in the discus throw at 35.27 meters. 

Carter Schorr rounded out the top finishes of the meet in second for the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase at 9:23.88. 

Other Notable Finishes:
  • Ashlyn Minton earned a new personal best in the women's 5,000 meters at 17:20.33 to place fourth
  • Katherine Olsen placed fourth in the women's 800 meters at 2:10.53
  • Molly Kracht finished sixth in javelin throw at 33.21 meters
  • Isaac Kane came in sixth for the men's 200 meters at 21.70

The Bulldogs top athletes will head to the west coast this week beginning on Wednesday, Apr. 12 for the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. and the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
