INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Bulldogs will play a three-game series against #9 UConn at Elliot Ballpark this weekend. Friday's game will end under the lights with a 6 PM first pitch. Saturday's contest will move up to 2 PM and the getaway game will get underway at 12 PM. Every game will stream on UConn+.

The Huskies and Xavier Musketeers are battling for the top spot in the BIG EAST standings with 11 conference wins each. UConn took two of three at St. John's to open the conference slate. They won two of three vs. Xavier and Georgetown before sweeping Villanova and Seton Hall. The ninth-best team in the country will host the Bulldogs for the first time this weekend.
Head Coach Jim Penders entered his 20th season at UConn in 2023. He guided UConn to a 50-win season in 2022 that ended with a trip to the NCAA Super Regionals. The 2023 team is sitting on 36 wins late in the year. Dominic Freeberger, Jake Studley and Luke Broadhurst are the players to keep an eye on. Freeberger leads the club with 67 hits and 53 RBI. Studley has 64 hits over 47 starts including 12 doubles, two triples and seven home runs. Broadhurst heads into the weekend with 12 doubles and a team-best 11 home runs.
Recent History vs. the Huskies
UConn was ranked No. 15 when they visited Indianapolis in 2022. The Huskies and Bulldogs went into extra innings to decide game one. In the end, UConn would record an 8-7 victory and push forward to sweep the series. The 2021 series was set to be played in Storrs, but travel issues canceled all three games.

Midweek Matchups
Butler took two 7-6 losses during midweek action. Northern Kentucky broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to come up with a win at Friendship Field and the Dayton Flyers would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat BU at Woerner Field. Butler had three more hits than their opponent in each game.
The Bulldogs had eight extra-base hits over the two game period.
Scott Jones had a two-RBI double in each game and led BU with five RBIs.
Ryan O'Halloran hit .571 with four hits in seven at-bats and
Xavier Carter hit .400.
Bosecker Lands on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Pitching five innings in a win at Georgetown,
Cory Bosecker allowed just one hit and no earned runs, while striking out six batters.

Joey Urban heads into the weekend with a team-high 16 doubles. The Butler single-season record is 20, set by Ryan Wojciechowski during the 2015 campaign. Urban has hit four doubles over his last four games and currently ranks third in the BIG EAST.
