Angelina Ellis Rewrites History During Day 2 of the Big East Outdoor Championship

Villanova, Pa. — The Butler track and field team continued their success during Day 2 of the Big East Outdoor Championships after three athletes placed on the podium.

Angelina Ellis crushed the conference record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:54.10. She broke the mark set in 2017 on her way to a Big East title. 

With a total of 6,788 points, Butler's Jack Elder took second in the men's decathlon. Elder's winning marks in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.97 and pole vault at 4.10 meters during the final events of the decathlon helped boost his personal best. 

Karmen Koch and Niki Ezeh earned medals in the women's heptathlon with Koch securing the silver with a total of 5188 points while Ezeh took the bronze with a total of 4860 points. Koch also broke her own school record in the javelin throw during the heptathlon with a distance of 42.20 meters. 

In the field, Drew Herman placed second in the men's high jump to earn All-Big East honors. His mark of 2.05 meters was also a new personal best. 

Butler had five student-athletes score points in the 5,000 meters. Simon Bedard and Barry Keane finished side-by-side at 13:46.09 and 13:47.05 in fourth and fifth place. William Zegarski also earned points for the Bulldogs placing seventh at 13:51.48.

On the women's side, Mia Beckham and Elsa Rusthoven both scored points after finishing fourth and eighth respectively at 16:11.73 and 17:19.68. 

In the prelims, Zac Stanley qualified for the finals of the men's 400 meters at 48.41 while Jenna Doezema earned a spot in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles at 1:02.73.

The final day of competition will kick off Saturday at 10:00 a.m. ET with the men's pole vault.
