Butler Upsets #9 UConn 11-8

STORRS – Butler scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to spoil the Huskies Senior Day and record an 11-8 victory at #9 UConn on Sunday afternoon. The win was Butler's first over a ranked opponent since May, 18. 2018!

Kollyn All and Scott Jones combined to go 8-for-11 from the plate with six RBIs and three runs scored. The Bulldogs ended the contest with 16 total hits, including three doubles.

All generated the first run of the game with a single through the right side that scored Joey Urban. Butler added a second run in the opening inning off a wild pitch, but the Huskies would counter with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The second inning was more of the same action as BU added two more runs followed by two by the home team. Carter Dorighi's double to right center scored Jake DeFries and Dorighi would come around to score on a Xavier Carter single.

In the fourth, Jones singled to score Dorighi and All put some pressure on UConn with a two-run homer to right. The Huskies got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth and regained the lead on a two-RBI single in the fifth.

BU tied the game in the eighth and won it in the ninth. Dorighi had a sac fly in the ninth and RBI singles from Jones and All would help secure the win.

All ended the day 4-for-5 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Jones was also impressive, going 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Butler worked as a unit on the mound Sunday using six pitchers against the Huskies. Jon Vore got the win and Cole Graverson was credited with the save. Vore tossed 3.1 innings and limited UConn to just one hit. Graverson closed the door in the ninth.

The Bulldogs will ride this momentum into the final weekend of the regular season. Butler will host St. John's with game one of the series set for Thursday at 3 PM.
