Five @ButlerWLacrosse Players Earn Academic All-District Honors from College Sports Communicators

Five student-athletes on the Butler women's lacrosse team – Kaley Attaway, KK Callaghan, Katie DeShan, Leah Rubino, Caroline Smith– have been recognized by College Sports Communicators as Academic All-District®.
 
The 2023 Academic All-District® At-Large Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 22.
 
Attaway, a senior from Milton, Georgia, played in 14 games this season, starting eight. Her six assists and 16 ground balls each ranked third on the team, and her 17 points and 24 shots on goal were fourth. The midfielder is eighth on Butler's all-time list for career goals (35), tied for seventh in career assists (15), and tenth in career draw controls (42).
 
Callaghan, a graduate student from Dallas, Texas, played in 12 games for Butler, starting seven. She was third on the team with 31 shots and 26 shots on goal, and her 14 goals and 17 total points both ranked fourth. The attacker had a season-high three goals at Youngstown State on Feb. 12.
 
DeShan, a sophomore from Radner, Pennsylvania, played in 14 games this season, starting 13. Her 15 ground balls ranked fifth on the team. The defender notched an assist at Youngstown State on Feb. 12.
 
Rubino, a junior from Potomac, Maryland, led her Butler squad in multiple categories this season, including goals (35), points (40), shots, ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers. Her seven-goal performance on March 26 against Eastern Michigan set a program record for most goals in a single game. The midfielder was a 2023 All-BIG EAST First Team selection and was named BIG EAST Midfielder of the week on March 13.
 
Smith, a sophomore from St. Joseph, Michigan, played in all 15 games this season in goal, starting 13. With 700 minutes between the pipes, she made 115 saves while facing 359 shots. The keeper was credited with all five wins the Bulldogs produced.
