NEW YORK - Five Butler Athletics programs have earned the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award for their respective sport for the 2022-23 academic year. The baseball and softball teams, as well as the women's indoor track and field team, the women's outdoor track and field team, and the women's cross country team, each outperformed their BIG EAST counterparts.
 
The BIG EAST Conference announced the 22 teams that were recognized with 2022-23 Team Academic Excellence Awards for compiling the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport. The winners were chosen based on the 2022-23 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
 
This was the second consecutive year that the Butler women's indoor and outdoor track and field programs picked up the honor. The women's cross country team posted a 3.803 GPA, leading the five Butler programs which were honored.
 
Eleven conference schools had at least one team honored, with Butler leading the way with five, while DePaul had the second most with four teams recognized. Creighton rounded out the top three with a trio of programs honored.
