Horne's 66 Highlights Day 1 for Butler Men's Golf at The Virtues Intercollegiate

| By:

Butler's Will Horne and Damon Dickey found red numbers on multiple occasions during Monday's 36 holes at the Virtues Intercollegiate, leading the Bulldogs into a tie for ninth in the team standings entering the final round of the event.

The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Miami (Ohio), concludes Tuesday.

Horne used six birdies and an eagle on the 557-yard, par-5 seventh hole en route to a six-under 66 in Monday's second round on The Virtues Golf Club course in Nashport, Ohio. That followed a three-over 75 in the opening round and places Horne in a tie for 12th in the overall standings.

Horne's 66 is tied for the program's second-best round on a par-72 course, trailing only the school record posted by Dickey (64) on the LPGA International Jones Course in Daytona Beach, Fla., as part of the 2023 Sacred Heart Spring Invitational.

Dickey's opening round 68 (-4) Monday featured six birdies, each coming within an eight-hole stretch.

Through 36 holes, Michigan holds the team lead at 552 (-24), which is 10 shots better than Marshall. Butler is tied for ninth at 578 (+2) after rounds of 290 and even-par 288 Monday.

Marshall's Ryan Bilby holds a two-shot individual lead at 134 (-10). His opening-round 64 was the best round of the day among the 88 competitors.

Tuesday's final 18 holes will include groups teeing off both No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Butler players will be among the first five groups teeing off No. 1.
