OMAHA – Creighton shot 55 percent against Butler on Wednesday night to claim their 12th win of the season. The 89-53 setback moves Butler's overall record to 8-7.
Creighton led Butler by 10 points at the first media timeout, but the Bulldogs fired back after the stoppage to go on a 5-0 run making the game 14-9. Four of Creighton's five starters scored over the first five minutes of the game helping the home team build a seven-point lead after the first quarter (18-11).
Emma Ronsiek had eight for CU in the first and added eight more in the second to lead all players at the half with 16 points. She never left the court and was 7-for-10 from the field with six rebounds. Ronsiek led the charge for a 13-1 Creighton scoring run in the second quarter and the Bluejays would lead the Bulldogs 37-25 at halftime.
The Bulldogs shared the ball in the first half allowing eight different players to score over the first 20 minutes.
Sydney Jaynes led BU with seven at the break, but she was limited to just 10 minutes due to picking up two personal fouls.
Creighton extended their defense with Butler in the building on Wednesday night and it helped limit BU to just two made 3-point field goals in the first half. Each of those shots came very early in the second quarter with
Jordan Meulemans hitting from the left wing and
Riley Makalusky following from the top of the key. That six-point swing made it a one-point game and Butler had the deficit at two points before the 13-1 CU scoring run.
The Bluejays opened the second half on an 11-2 scoring run to push their lead to 21. They outscored Butler 29-11 in the third and 23-17 in the fourth to capture a 89-53 victory.
