INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler swim team competed against the Jaguars at the IUPUI Natatorium over the weekend.
Sadie Brown highlighted the action with a win in the 400 IM and the Bulldogs also won the 200 Free Relay.
"We had a great meet considering how tough this point in the season is for the Bulldogs," assistant coach
Allie Carmichael said. "Coming home from an incredibly successful yet challenging training trip last week, this meet showcased the team's grit and determination from start to finish. There were some great races that showed improved race strategies and overall readiness for the second half of this season. We are excited to see how this meet carries into the next few dual meets leading up to the Big East Conference Championship meet at the end of February!"
The Bulldogs' "Swimmer of the Meet" was freshman
Sam Tomic, who achieved her first-ever Big East qualifying time. Her performance was a personal best for her collegiate career in the 200 Free (1:58.27), earning BU a third-palace finish.
Tomic paced BU in the 500 Free as well with a time of 5:34.13.
Brown was the top swimmer in the 400 IM after posting a time of 4:49.02. Teammate
Caroline Zimner earned second place in the event (4:49.94).
The 200 Free Relay included
Kate Schilling,
Gianna Leffler,
Olivia Stotts, and
Alani Hightower-Bend. That group won the event with a time of 1:40.98.
Brown was also the top BU swimmer in the 1000 Yard Free. She placed third with a time of 11:12.83 and
Elizabeth Naylor was close behind in fourth (11:13.59).
Butler's 400 Medley Relay team of

Lauren Bergman,
Olivia Stotts had a fourth-place finish with a time of 4:00.16.
Hightower-Bend was also active for BU in the 100 Fly and 100 Back. She finished third in the Fly (59.83) and fourth in the Back (1:00.43). Her performance in the Fly was her best time at a dual meet this season.
Schilling swam well for BU in the 200 Breast and 200 Fly. Her time of 2:30.19 landed her in fourth place in the Breast and she clocked in at 2:17.88 for fifth in the Fly.
In the sprints, Stotts and Bergman finished back-to-back in the 50 Free with times of 25.32 and 25.64. They took home fourth and fifth place. Stotts and Tomic swam well in the 100 Free. Stotts placed fourth with a time of 55.37 and Tomic was right there for fifth (55.94).
BU also got a top-five finish from
Olivia McKee in the 200 Back (2:10.80).
The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 28 when they host the 15th Annual Butler Invitational. Action in Fishers will begin at 12 PM and include Xavier, Valparaiso, Youngstown State, UIndy, Eastern Illinois and Lewis.
