The Butler men's track and field team and head coach Matt Roe announced on last week that graduate transfer Austin Gabay will be joining the team in the Fall of 2024.

Gabay is set to arrive in Indianapolis after spending the last four seasons at Duke while completing an undergraduate degree in public policy. During his time with the Blue Demons, Gabay was a NCAA East Preliminaries qualifier and Academic All-ACC honoree.

"We are thrilled that Austin will be joining us as a graduate transfer this fall," Roe exclaimed. "He has shown flashes of being a national class runner at Duke and I believe in our training environment he is going to catapult himself to the next level."

The Cinnaminson, NJ native was Duke's top cross country runner in 2023 running a 29:58.4 in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional on Nov. 10. Gabay qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries at 1,500 meters last spring with a personal best of 3:42.94.

Last weekend, he broke the Duke's indoor 3,000 meter record with a time of 7:58.94 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. His mark was a new personal best and currently ranks 14th in the ACC.

"Austin is a gem of a prospect," Roe stated. "As evidenced by his race last weekend in Boston, he is also on the rise.  We can't wait to get him to campus."
