@ButlerXCTF Men Take Second at the 2024 BIG EAST Indoor Championships

The Butler track and field programs concluded the final day of the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in Chicago, Ill.

As a team, Butler medaled in seven more events on Saturday including one gold, four silvers and two bronze medals.

Men's Team
The Bulldog men earned second as a team with 116 points earning the highest finish for the BIG EAST Indoors in program history. The last time Butler made the podium as a team was when the Bulldog men placed third in 2017.

"We've been knocking on this door for a while and today the men kicked it down," head coach Matt Roe stated. "It was a total team and we needed everyone to get it done. It was a remarkable display of maximizing resources. I couldn't be prouder of our athletes and our staff."

Jesse Hamlin secured the gold in the men's mile after posting a time of 4:01.79. Hamlin then made the podium again in the men's 3,000 meters at 7:59.32.

Luke Finnegan earned a medal in three different events. He placed second in the 60-meter dash at 6.82 and the 200 meters at 21.22, which was a new school record. 

Finnegan then joined Zac Stanley, Gavin Cougle and Michael Beros in the men's 4x400 meter relay to place third at 3:13.20. 

In the men's 4x800 relay, the quartet of Martin Kovacech, Joe Barrett, William Cuthbertson and Liam Dennis broke the program record with a time of 7:30.85 to each earn silver medals.

Jack Elder rounded out the medals receiving second in the men's heptathlon with a score of 5357. Elder made the top three in each of the final three events including the pole vault (first), 60-meter hurdles (second) and 1,000 meters (third). 

Also scoring points for the Bulldogs were David Slapak and William Zegarski in the men's 3,000 meters after Slapak placed fourth 8:00.03 and Zegarski took sixth at 8:02.55.

Women's Team
The Butler women's track team placed eighth as a team with 22 points at the BIG EAST Indoors.

Elsa Rusthoven was the highlight on the final day of the event after she set a new personal best in the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 9:25.27. Wiktoria Klebowska also posted a time of 9:33.74 to earn 11th.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Reagan Kelly, Jenna Doezema, Clara Reynolds and Jocelyn Davis earned a new season best with a time of 3:51.45

The Bulldogs with the top qualifying times this season will have a week off before heading to Boston, Mass. for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9.
