INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's basketball team took a 74-52 loss to Marquette in their final game of the regular season. The BIG EAST Tournament is up next for the Bulldogs. They will play Providence at 11 AM on March 8.
Liza Karlen was the best player on the floor Saturday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse. She battled foul trouble early in this one but ended the contest with a game-high 20 points in 18 minutes of action. Jordan King supplemented the Eagles with 17 points and Skylar Forbes was in the box scored with 13.
Butler had a balanced scoring attack with 10 players coming up with points.
Karsyn Norman led the 'Dawgs with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Norman and
Jordan Meulemans each hit two 3-pointers to give BU four of their five on the day.
Lilly Stoddard and
Rachel Kent each grabbed five rebounds for BU. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Golden Eagles 32-29 but were hurt by 20 turnovers compared to Marquette's seven.
Marquette led by four after the first quarter and would extend their lead to 28-17 by opening up the second on a 7-0 scoring run. Butler didn't go away and would close the first half with a 10-0 run to get back within two points at 35-33.
The third quarter the difference in this outcome as Marquette outscored Butler 19-8 to take a 54-41 lead into the fourth. The Golden Eagles added 20 more points to the scoreboard over the final 10 minutes to earn a 74-52 win.
