The Butler women's lacrosse team fell 11-8 in a tough fight against UC Davis on Saturday afternoon in Davis, Calif. The Bulldogs now sit at 1-5 for the 2024 season, while the Aggies sit at 6-2.

Luci Selander scored a total of three goals alone in the first quarter of the match. Midfielder
Kayla Kielbasa also contributed a goal in the first quarter assisted by
Delaney Hudson, helping the Bulldogs finish the quarter with a 4-2 lead.Â

UC Davis controlled the second and third quarters of the match, scoring a total of seven goals and not allowing any of Butler's three shots in the net. Heading in the fourth quarter of the match, the Aggies held a 9-4 lead over the Bulldogs.Â

In the final quarter of the match, the Bulldogs scored four goals on eight shots.
Leah Rubino, Butler's leading scorer, contributed two goals and accounted for six of Butler's 12 draw controls. In addition, Selander and Kielbasa each netted a goal in the fourth quarter.Â

Selander matched her season-high in goals, scoring four against the Aggies. Selander last scored four goals in a single game in the Bulldogs' losses to Vanderbilt and Ohio State. Goalie
Caroline Smith recorded 10 saves and one ground ball in the loss.Â

Butler will round out their trip to California on Tuesday, March 12 where they will take on California in Berkeley, Calif. The first draw is set for 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT).Â
