The Butler women's lacrosse team fell 21-11 to BIG EAST member UConn this afternoon in Storrs, Conn in the Bulldog's final road game of the season. The Bulldogs now fall to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in conference games.
The Huskies started the match with an early 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs before Butler was able to get points on the board. Near the middle of the first quarter the Bulldog's started to gain momentum through back-to-back Bulldog goals netted by
Kate Kaptrosky and
Sophia Knoblock, both assisted by
Luci Selander. In addition,
Kayla Kielbasa contributed a goal in the final seconds of the first quarter.
In the second quarter Kaptrosky, Knoblock, Selander, and Kielbasa continued strong on the scoring front for the Bulldogs. Entering the third quarter the Bulldogs were down 12-7, Knoblock netted an assisted goal from
Elise Latham. Followed by Kaptrosky's three goals scored within the final six minutes of the third quarter. The Huskies took control in the final quarter of the match, scoring five goals and not allowing for any Bulldog goals.
Noteable Stats
- Freshman Sophia Knoblock netted four goals, recording a personal career high for goals scored within a single game.
- Midfielder Kate Kaptrosky contributed four goals on eight shots. This was Kaptrosky's third time during the 2024 season scoring four goals in a single game.
- Attack Luci Selander contributed four points, consisting of two goals and two assists. Selander tied Butler's leader in points scored within a single season with Campbell Connors' 52 points.
- Kiersten Farley and Leah Rubino each recorded three ground balls. Rubino also accounted for four draw controls.
- Midfielder Kayla Kielbasa recorded a goal and two assists.
- Goalie Caroline Smith recorded 12 saves and five ground balls.
The Butler women's lacrosse team will be back home to take on Detroit Mercy on Saturday, April 27 in Indianapolis, Ind. to celebrate Senior Day. The first draw is set for 12 p.m.
