The Bulldogs continued their steady play at the 2024 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship presented by JEEP, holding on to the second spot as the tournament concluded Monday afternoon.
The runner-up finish for the Bulldogs is the best result for Butler's men's golf program since joining the BIG EAST prior to the 2014 championship.
The 54-hole event was contested at the Riverton Pointe Golf Course in Hardeeville, S.C.
Butler spent Monday's 18 holes trying to track down leader Seton Hall while attempting to keep a surging group of teams at bay. The Bulldogs were able to do just that with their three-over team total of 291 Monday.
Seton Hall shot an even-par 288 Monday to finish at 872 (+8), which was five shots ahead of Butler. The Bulldogs finished the event with a two-shot edge over third-place Creighton. The Bluejays shot the best round of the day Monday at three-under 285. There were a total of 10 teams in the field.
Will Horne led the way for the Bulldogs with his second consecutive even-par 72. His Monday card included a birdie and an eagle on the 551-yard, par-5 seventh hole. His rounds of 73, 72, and 72 had him at one-over 217 for the tournament and in a tie for sixth.
Butler's best round of the tournament came from
Damon Dickey Monday as he used six birdies on the 7,158-yard course to card a three-under 69. It matched the low round of the day Monday as he and Seton Hall's George Fricker were the only two players to post a score south of 70.
Derek Tabor finished in a tie for 11
th following his Monday 78 (+6). Coupled with his earlier rounds of 72 and 71, he finished at five-over 221.
Daniel Tanaka was one shot behind him at 222 (+6), finishing in a tie for 13
th.
Leo Zurovac finished tied for 28
th at 226 (+10).
Peicheng Chen of St. John's won the BIG EAST title at two-under 214. He shot an even-par 72 Monday to hold off the field. Creighton's Shaun Campbell was one shot back.
As the team champion, Seton Hall gains an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship, while Chen also earns an automatic spot in the event.
