Cougle and Cuthbertson Set New Program Records at the Billy Hayes Invitational

.BLOOMINGTON, IND. The Butler track and field team wrapped up competition at the Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday.

William Cuthbertson and Gavin Cougle rewrote the history books. Cuthbertson posted a mark of 1:47.54 in the men's 800 meters to win the event. He ended up breaking his own record set at the Bryan Clay Invitational last month. The graduate student moved his mark up to third in the conference.

Cougle then ran a 47.16 in the men's 400 meters to set a new program record. The sophomore finished first in the event and knocked off the previous record set by Jacob Uhul in 2022 at 47.26. He now holds the fastest mark in the conference.

Other top Bulldog performers included:
  • David Slapak finished second in the men's 1,500 meters at 3:41.47.
  • Cabott Craft earned a pair of third place finishes in both jumps events. He posted distances of 6.90 meters in the long jump and 13.92 meters in the triple jump.
  • Lucy Czirjak recorded a mark of 11.50 meters in the women's long jump to finish third.
  • Abby Fostveit placed fourth in the women's 800 meters at 2:11.97.
The team will regroup in preparation for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships next weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. from May 9-11.
