Marquette Edges Butler in Milwaukee 57-54

Butler led Marquette by one with one minute remaining in the contest, but a Lee Volker layup with 30 seconds paired with some late free throws would give the home team a 57-54 victory. Kilyn McGuff was sensational for Butler with 18 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

McGuff and Sydney Jaynes scored in double figures for the Bulldogs. Each player hit two 3-pointers and the duo combined to make 11 of Butler's 20 field goals on the afternoon.

Marquette was led by sophomore forward Skylar Forbes and her game-high 21 points. Forbes added six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots in 36 minutes of action. The only other Golden Eagle in double figures was fellow sophomore Halle Vice with 10.

Butler pushed aside a slow start and would tie the game at 12-12 early in the second quarter. Marquette put together a 6-0 run to make the game 18-12, but the Bulldogs countered with a 5-0 run to get back within one.

Marquette's one-point lead held until the half at 23-22. McGuff had six points and 12 rebounds at the break and Forbes had nine second quarter points to lead Marquette.

McGuff and Jaynes went 3-for-4 from 3-point range in the third quarter helping BU grab a 32-31 advantage. They moved forward to lead Marquette by four heading into the fourth quarter on FS1.

Marquette scored first in the fourth to get back within a point of BU, but the Bulldogs continued to feed the hot hand of McGuff and her layup with six to play allowed Butler to lead 47-42. A 5-0 Golden Eagle scoring run followed to tie the game and the two teams would be deadlocked the rest of the way.

Lily Carmody split a pair at the line with just over one minute to play to give BU a slim 54-53 lead, but Volker's layup pushed Marquette over the top to collect their 10th win of the season. With the loss, BU moves to 10-7.
