Butler Claims Eighth Against Nationally-Ranked Field at the Nuttycombe Invitational

The 12th-ranked Butler Bulldogs finished eighth in a field that included 18 nationally ranked teams. The meet took place Friday early afternoon at the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisconsin. 

The eighth-place finish put the Bulldogs ahead of 10 nationally-ranked teams, including No. 1 Iowa State, No. 7 Wisconsin, and No. 9 Notre Dame. 

Leading the way for the Dawgs in the Championship 8k race was William Zegarski, who finished 14th with a time of 23:36.1. Matthew Forrester finished closely behind in 27th place with a time of 23:44.0. 

Jesse Hamlin and Austin Gabay each had solid top-100 finishes. Hamlin placed 47th with a time of 23:56.4, while Gabay finished 51st in 23:57.8. 

New Mexico's Habtom Samuel won the race with a time of 22:58.0. Including Samuel, No. 3 New Mexico had four top-15 finishers and won the team title with 51 points. No. 5 Colorado finished second with 150 points. No. 11 Syracuse, No. 13 Northern Arizona and No. 6 BYU rounded out the top five. 

Butler also saw positive results in the Men's 8K B Race. Matteo Rosio finished fourth with a time of 24:26.3. Kyle Grove finished 23rd, while Asher Propst placed 26th.
