Butler Defeats University of Nebraska Omaha 5-2

Today, Butler traveled to Omaha Nebraska to take on the University of Nebraska Omaha. The Dawgs were able to come away with a 5-2 win, improving their record on the season to 5-3.

The Bulldogs started fast, grabbing the doubles point. On court 1 Nicolas Arts and Rahulniket Konakanchi were able to win their match via a 7-4 tiebreaker win defeating Bryan Kuntz and Mikhail Korkunov 7-6. Over on court 2 the duo of Riccardo Baldi and Arnesh Singh continued their winnings ways, by beating Pavan Uppu and Mikel Garmendia 6-3.

As for the singles matches, on court 2 sophomore Riccardo Baldi carried his momentum over from his doubles match, he defeated Ethan Gaubert in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. On court 4, Rahulniket Kocakanchi dropped the first set but then dominated the rest of the match. He won the second set 6-0, then in the third set he won 6-2. Kocakanchi defeated Mikel Garmendia 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. On court 4 Nicholas Shirley also dropped the first set and battled back to win his match. Shirley prevailed against Christian Trevey 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Over on court 6 sophomore Siddhartha Lama won his match against Pavan Uppu. Lama and Uppu split the first to sets, then in the third set Lama jumped out to an early lead in the set and was able to withstand a comeback from Uppu winning the set 6-4 and the match 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

Butler is back in action tomorrow. They will stay in Omaha to take on the Creighton Blue Jays. The match will start at 11 a.m. ET/ 10 a.m.CT.
