Bulldogs Kick Off Season Opener in Eugene Against Oregon and Stetson

 EUGENE, ORE. — The Butler women's lacrosse team will begin their 2025 campaign on the west coast against Oregon and Stetson. The Bulldogs will play two games this weekend at Papé Field first on Friday against Oregon followed by another match on Sunday against Stetson.

Bulldog Bits
  • Head coach Maggie Zentgraf returns for her third season with the program. 
    • Zentgraf is a former member of the Notre Dame women's lacrosse team. She previously coached at Division III Lake Forest, going 11-4 in the program's first-ever season.
  • Butler placed fifth in the BIG EAST last season with a record of 2-14 and 1-5 overall
  • Butler welcomes 19 newcomers to the team including 12 freshmen, five transfers and two assistant coaches.
  • Freshman Alyssa Lentz is set to take over the starting goalkeeper role this season after joining the program from Bethesda, Md.
  • Elise Latham is the top returning scorer in goals (11) and assists (4).
  • Emily Eckert (2/12) and Sophia Knoblock (4/22) each earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors last season.
Scouting Oregon
In the final season of the Pac-12 conference, Oregon finished fifth with a 2-5 conference record. 

Head coach Jessica Drummond enters her second season under the helm after leading her team to a 8-7 record overall.

Three Ducks made the Big Ten Players to Watch List including midfielder Anna Simmons and Avery Young along with defender Lexi Jenkins. Simmons is the top returning scorer after notching 34 goals and eight assists last season.

Scouting Stetson
The Hatters finished the 2024 campaign with a record of 4-11 overall and 1-5 in the conference. 

Stetson welcomed a new head coach Sue Murphy to take over the program. Murphy is a veteran coach who previously had stints with Boston U and Richmond. She holds a career record of 151-142 and has been selected coach of the year four times (twice in the Atlantic 10 and America East)

As a team, Stetson's attack led the ASUN conference with 23.20 points per game and 8.33 assists per game. Attackers Samantha King and Kaitlin Pani return as two of the team's top three goal scorers in 2024. King finished with 34 goals while Pani added 33 goals.

The Bulldogs will have a break until the end of the month where they will face Youngstown State on Friday, Feb. 28.
