The Butler Women’s Tennis Team is Set to Compete in the BIG EAST Tournament

The Butler Women's Tennis team is set to compete in the BIG EAST Tournament this weekend in Cayce, S.C. The tournament will begin Thursday April 17th at 9am. Butler will enter the tournament as the 6th seed. 

The Bulldogs finished the season with a 4-3 conference record and an 8-12 record overall. Butler enters the tournament playing good tennis, they are 5-2 in their last 7 matches. Four of those five wins came against conference foes.

The schedule for the BIG EAST Tournament is as follows 
Thursday, 4/17 - 9 a.m. ET – First Round
#8 Creighton vs. #9 Seton Hall
#7 Georgetown vs. #10 Marquette
#6 Butler vs. #11 Providence
Friday, 4/18 – 9 a.m. ET - Quarterfinals
#1 UConn vs. Creighton/Seton Hall winner
#2 Xavier vs. Georgetown/Marquette winner
#3 St. John's vs. Butler/Providence winner
12:45 p.m.
#4 Villanova vs. #5 DePaul
Saturday, 4/19 – 9 a.m. ET – Semifinals
1/8/9 Winner vs. 4/5 Winner
2/7/10 Winner vs. 3/6/11 Winner
Sunday, 4/20 – 9 a.m. ET – Championship

First Round Matchup for Butler 
Butler (6) is set to take on Providence (11) in the first round on Thursday, April 17th. The match will start at 9am. 


Scouting Providence 
Providence finished the season 0-5 in BIG EAST conference play and 3-14 overall.


Previous Matchup vs Providence 
On March 29th Butler defeated Providence 7-0. The doubles duos of Chase Metcalf / Brooke Arington and Norah Balthazor / Lauren Cook each picked up 6-2 wins in the match. Metcalf, Arington, Cook, and Balthazor all picked up singles wins as well as Katie Beavin, and Emma Beavin. Every singles match won by the Dawgs was won in straight sets.  


Potential Quarter Final Matchup 
The winner of the Butler Providence match will take on the 3 seed in the Tournament, St. Johns. That match will take place Friday, April 18th at 9am. St. Johns enters the BIG EAST Tournament with a 5-1 conference record and a 13-6 overall record. If Butler were to advance to the quarterfinals it would be the first time Butler and St. Johns meet this season.
