The Bulldogs are tied for the lead at -3 after the opening round of the 2025 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship presented by JEEP. Butler posted a team score of 285 (-3) on the first day of the event. Marquette also posted a team score of 285 (-3).
The Bulldogs were led by Derek Tabor who shot an opening –4 and is tied for 2
nd with Georgetown's Barns Blake. Tabor posted five birdies on the 6,911-yard par 72 at Callawassie Island Club in Okatie, S.C. After dropping a stroke on the 9
th Tabor fired 3 birdies in a row on holes 10, 11, and 12. He then parred the rest of the holes and finished with a 68.
Freshman Luke Kruger carded a 69 (-3) and finds himself tied for 4
th with Vibhav Alokam of Villanova. Kruger birdied two of the first three holes and finished with six total birdies.
Mason Schmidtke of Marquette is the 18 hole leader. He posted a 67 (-5). Tabor is just one shot back of the lead and Kruger finds himself two shots back.
The 54-hole event continues Sunday with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m. The championship runs through Monday.

The BIG EAST will crown a team champion, which gains an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. Should the individual champion not be a member of the winning team, he will also earn an automatic position in the NCAA Championship.
