Congratulations to Scott McDowell from Butler University for receiving the 2025 AEMA Glenn Sharp Award!
The Glenn Sharp Award is the most prestigious award that the Athletic Equipment Managers Association gives out each year at their annual convention. It is given to the member who has made the most significant beneficial contributions to the AEMA. Candidates are nominated from each District then reviewed by the Board of Directors and past award winners before the three finalists are voted by all active AEMA members.
McDowell has served as Equipment Manager at Butler since August of 2012. He has been a certified member of the AEMA since 1998 and has served District 5 Secretary since 2015. McDowell has been a member of the association's Scholarship Committee since 2018, and was named Chair of the Lifetime Achievement Committee in 2024.
McDowell is a 1998 graduate of Indiana University where he studied Sport Marketing and Management. At IU, he was a three-year student manager for the football team. McDowell has also worked with several NFL teams as a training camp equipment intern – Colts ('95, '96), Panthers ('97), Ravens ('98), Buccaneers ('01) and Chargers ('02).
McDowell spent six seasons as Equipment Manager with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe in Dusseldorf Germany (2000-2005). During that time the Fire appeared in three World Bowls, winning the championship in 2000.
"I'm honored and humbled to win this award," McDowell said. "It means even more that it is voted upon by my equipment manager peers. I have a passion for our profession and our association and even though I'm not overly vocal, I'm glad that my work is noticed. I try to embody the phrase of servant leader."
