A game of runs swung back to Shield 219, a team comprised mainly of Valparaiso alumni, early in the fourth quarter as the team took a 61-56 lead with 7:14 remaining on the clock. Four three-pointers – three by Wideman and one by Myles Tate – gave All Good Dawgs a 68-63 advantage as the Elam Ending was set at 76 points.
Â
That Elam Ending came emphatically as Ty Groce's tip dunk off a missed three-pointer gave All Good Dawgs the 77-69 win.
Â
Tate scored 18 points for All Good Dawgs, while Groce added 15 points and six rebounds. Wideman had seven rebounds and four assists to go along with his game-high 23 points. Wideman was 0-for-6 from behind the arc in his four-year Butler career but has added the three-point shot to his game while playing overseas since his graduation in 2018.
Â
Ben Krikke led Shield 219 with 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Â
All Good Dawgs struggled from the field in the first half, going only 9-for-35 over the first two periods. The team was still able to hold a 31-28 halftime lead. An early spurt by All Good Dawgs led to a 41-31 lead midway through the third quarter, the team's largest of the contest. Shield 219 responded by scoring 26 of the final 36 points of the third quarter to take a 57-51 lead into the final stanza, one that All Good Dawgs was able to overcome.
