Bulldogs Drop Series Opener at Murray State

Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Butler fell to Murray State in the opening game of the series 6-0. With the loss, Butler slides to 2-4 on the season while Murray State improves to 3-2. Butler and Murray State will be back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET / 12:05 p.m. ET.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gavin got things rolling for the Dawgs in the first at bat of the game with a leadoff single. Butler was unable to move Gavin, as the Racers secured the next three outs to end the top half of the frame. Butler retired the Murray State side in order keeping the score at 0-0 heading to the second. 
  • The second was scoreless for both sides. Murray State struck first in the bottom of the third plating a run behind two hits and an error in the frame. The Racers took the 1-0 lead into the fourth. 
  • The Racers tacked on three more runs on three hits in the fourth as the home side took the 4-0 lead into the fifth inning. 
  • The fifth was scoreless for both sides. Butler was able to load the bases in the top of the sixth but was unable to scratch any runs across as the Murray State advantage stayed at four heading into the bottom half of the inning. BU held the Racer offense in check in the sixth as the Murray State lead stood at 4-0 going into the final three innings of the contest. 
  • The seventh was scoreless for both sides. Murray State tacked on two more in the eighth on two hits. BU was unable to mount a comeback in the top of the ninth dropping the contest 6-0. 
 
UP NEXT
Butler will return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader with the Racers. The first game will start at 1:05 ET / 12:05 CT and game two will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. A link to live stats will be available on Butlersports.com.
