In a match that came down to the final court, Connecticut took a narrow 4-3 win over Butler Friday afternoon in Indianapolis.
Â
The match served as the BIG EAST opener for the Bulldogs, who will also play DePaul this weekend.
Â
Butler's
Chase Metcalf and
Brooke Arington took singles wins in straight sets on the top two courts after combining for a win at No. 1 doubles.
Â
UConn was able to capture the doubles point by winning courts 2 and 3. That 1-0 lead carried through to singles and proved to be the difference as the teams split six individual matches.
Â
Butler also got a win from
Elle Martin at No. 6 singles, but the Huskies won courts 3, 4 and 5 to take the match. The matches on the fourth, fifth and sixth courts all went three sets.
Â
The Bulldogs return to action Sunday, hosting DePaul in another BIG EAST match. The first serve at the Indianapolis Racquet Club on Dean Road is scheduled for noon.
