2025- Jesse Hamlin posed

Hamlin Earns First-Team All-American Honors at NCAA Indoor Championships

| By:
Jesse Hamlin's fifth-place finish in the men's 3,000 meters earned him First-Team All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships Saturday night. Hamlin earns Indoor All-American first-team honors for the second time, bettering his finishing spot of seventh at the 2023 championships.

Hamlin's finish ties the highest individual finish in Butler's indoor track and field history. At the 1970 NCAA Indoor Championships (which included all divisions), Butler's Gerald Wolfolk placed fifth in the long jump. Hamlin's performance eclipses the sixth-place finishes by Erik Peterson in the 2017 5,000 meters and Scott Overall in the 2007 mile.

This season's NCAA Championships are being contested in Fayetteville, Ark.

Hamlin was among a group of six runners who pulled away from the pack over the last 600-meters before the top three created some separation over the last lap.

After a protest following the race, Habtom Samuel from New Mexico and Taha Er Raouy from Eastern Kentucky were disqualified. Colin Sahlman from Northern Arizona was awarded first-place after the protest with a time of 7:41.66.

Hamlin finished the race with a time of 7:47.69.  Butler finished 37th in the team standings behind Hamlin's performance.

"Today was an incredible punctuation to one of the most decorated careers in school history. Our program is incredibly proud of Jesse and his perseverance, toughness, and overall achievement," said Coach Matt Roe
