The Butler men's tennis team got back in the win column on Friday night with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Bellarmine.
The match was tied 3-3 with No. 5 singles left to be decided, and
Nicholas Balthazor secured a come-from-behind, three-set victory to clinch the match for Butler. After dropping the first set 6-4, Balthazor responded with a 6-2 win in the second before overcoming a late break in the final set to defeat Colby Berson 7-5. The victory moves Butler to 5-11 on the season, while Bellarmine falls to 4-10
Elsewhere in singles play,
Rahulniket Konakanchi secured a come-from-behind victory of his own, taking home the win at No. 3 despite dropping the first set. Konakanchi was able to battle back and take down Ryan Parkins 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
Ronin Kasday took home a three-set victory at No. 4 singles, and Butler won the point at No. 6 by default. Singles play was tightly contested throughout, with four of five matches going to three sets.
Bellarmine took home the doubles points with wins at No. 1 and 2, but Butler's four singles victories proved decisive.
The Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow against Southern Indiana. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. from IRC Dean Road.
