Bulldogs Drop Game Two at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Butler fell to Ohio State 13-3 in eight innings on Saturday evening. The Dawgs held multiple leads throughout the game, but the Buckeyes' offense proved decisive in the later innings. With the loss, Butler drops to 5-18 while Ohio State improves to 9-12.  
 

BULLDOG HIGHLIGHTS 

  • David Ayers was 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Ayers got the scoring started with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Max Winders responded on the mound with a scoreless bottom half, giving the Dawgs a 1-0 lead after one.  

  • Following a scoreless second inning, Ohio State evened the game at 1-1 with a three-hit third inning.  

  • Butler immediately responded in the top of the fourth with back-to-back hits. Schebler doubled, and Duncan drove him in with an RBI single. Winders faced the minimum in the bottom of the fourth, as Butler took a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning. 

  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Buckeyes took a 5-2 lead courtesy of a two-out grand slam.  

  • Walks from Will White and Gunnar Duncan gave the Bulldogs a two-out scoring opportunity in the top of the sixth. Connor Sackett pinch-hit for Jack Zeller, but struck out looking to end the Bulldog scoring threat. Ohio State added three runs on three hits in the bottom half, giving the Buckeyes an 8-2 advantage heading into the seventh.  

  • Moore started the seventh with a pinch-hit triple, his first of the year. Ayers drove him in with an RBI groundout, cutting the Ohio State lead to 8-3.  

  • Following a three-run seventh, OSU added two more runs in the eighth before the game ended in eight innings. The Buckeyes took game two of the series, 13-3. 
     

BULLDOG BITS 

  • With his two RBI performance, Ayers is now tied for the team lead with 25.  

UP NEXT 

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow for the series finale with the Buckeyes. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. A link to live stats and a live stream are available on Butlersports.com
