Butler University Mourns the Passing of Bill Dugan ’51

| By:
Butler University mourns the passing of Bill Dugan '51, a devoted alumnus, accomplished business leader, and one of the University's most generous and enduring supporters. Our thoughts are with his daughter, Candy, and his entire family.

Bill and his late wife, Joanne, were inducted into the Butler Athletics Hall of Fame a few months ago.

Bill and Joanne Dugan
Special Service Award
One of the most impactful and generous couples in Butler's history, Bill and Joanne Dugan have long supported Butler Athletics in addition to the university's academic mission. In recognition of a $7 million gift, Butler's Bill and Joanne Dugan Hall, which opened in 2019, is named for the couple and houses Butler's Andre B. Lacy School of Business, the Butler Beyond Transformation Lab, and the Office of Career and Professional Success. As a student, Dugan worked concessions at Hinkle Fieldhouse to help pay for his Butler education. He earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting in 1951 before becoming a successful entrepreneur and Indiana business leader. Bill met his late wife, Joanne, when the two were students at Butler in the late 1940s. The couple were married for 56 years prior to Joanne's passing in 2014. Bill's connection to Butler now spans eight decades.
