BULLDOG HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first frame and second were scoreless for both sides, as the only base runner in the first two frames came off a walk for the Huskies.
  • In the third inning, Butler got the scoring started as the Dawgs had two runners on with two outs. An RBI single from Rhoades brought Schebler home for BU, giving the Dawgs an early 1-0 advantage.
  • UConn was able to put runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the fourth. The Bulldog defense stood tall, grabbing the third out of the frame as the Huskies left two stranded.
  • After retiring the Bulldog side in order, UConn threatened again in the top of the fifth with runners on the corners and one out. An RBI single plated a run for the Huskies to even the score at 1-1. An error from the Butler defense and an RBI double scored two more for UConn as the visitors took the 3-1 lead. Butler was unable to cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fifth as BU trailed 3-1 heading into the back half of the contest.
  • The sixth was scoreless for both sides. The Huskies started the seventh with a leadoff triple. The Butler defense once again stood tall, collecting three-consecutive outs, leaving the UConn runner stranded 90 feet from home. BU went down in order in the bottom half of the inning as the visitors hung onto the two-run advantage heading into the eighth.
  • Cayden Suchy continued to dominate on the mound for the Huskies in the eighth as the lefty struck out the Bulldog side.
  • Butler was unable to mount a comeback in the ninth as the visitors secured the 3-1 victory in game two.
