INDIANAPOLIS - Butler fell to the Xavier Musketeers 12-10 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Butler slides to 19-31 overall and 8-9 in BIG EAST action while Xavier improves to 24-27 overall and 12-5 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Xavier got on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. The second frame was then scoreless for both sides as the visitors took the 1-0 lead into the third.
- After a scoreless third, Butler got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run from Ayers to deep right field. BU took the 3-1 advantage into the fifth.
- Xavier answered with a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Clay Burdette. Xavier then loaded the bases before Jonathan Fitz drew a walk, evening the score at 3-3. Gilmore hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Gavin, as the Dawgs retook the lead at 4-3.
- The Musketeers responded with a two-run home run in the sixth, giving the visitors a one-run advantage. In the seventh, the Xavier offense exploded, plating five runs on five hits as the Musketeers held a 10-4 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh. Butler scratched a run across in the bottom half of the frame, giving the visitors a four-run lead heading into the final two frames. Â
- Xavier added one in the eighth and one in the ninth, giving the visitors a seven-run advantage. The Bulldogs answered in the ninth, exploding for five runs, which cut the deficit to two. Despite having a runner on and the tying run at the plate, Butler was unable to complete the comeback, dropping the contest 12-10.
