Butler's William Zegarski has been named the BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week for cross country, as announced by the conference office Tuesday, Sept. 22.
 
Zegarski led the Butler squad with a 12^th-place individual finish at the John McNichols Invitational Saturday morning, covering the 8k course in a time of 24:00.7. The meet, held on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course that will host the 2026 NCAA Championships in November, drew a loaded field that included 14 nationally-ranked teams.
 
The Bulldogs placed tenth among the 34 teams. Butler, ranked No. 16 in the preseason national poll, beat several ranked teams in No. 12 Eastern Kentucky, No. 19 Harvard, No. 20 Georgia, No. 23 Air Force, No. 24 Cal Baptist, and No. 26 Louisville.
 
Zegarski is the second Bulldog to earn the BIG EAST weekly award so far during the 2026 campaign, joining teammate Kyle Grove who was recognized Sept. 15.
 
The Butler men are next in action Oct. 9 at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational. Butler's women next run Oct. 2 at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.
