2010 Fall Academic All-Horizon
League
INDIANAPOLIS - Eleven fall Butler
student-athletes were named academic All-Horizon League for the
fall 2010 semester, the highest total in the league. Four cross
country runners, four men's soccer players, two volleyball players
and a women's soccer player were honored.
Not only did Butler boast the most academic all-league
performers, but the Bulldogs claimed five championships during the
fall sports season. The cross country teams swept the league
championships, men's soccer won a regular season title as well as
the league tournament, women's soccer won a regular season
championship and was the top seed in the women's soccer league
tourney and volleyball claimed the 2010 Horizon League Volleyball
Championship.
Two men's and two women's cross country runners made academic
All-Horizon League. The men's squad was represented by grad student
Kris Gauson and senior Matt Lawder, each of whom own GPAs better
than 3.70. Matt Roe's women's squad had sophomore Katie Clark and
junior Lauren Haberkorn mentioned. Both Clark and Haberkorn have
GPAs better than 3.85.
Butler men's soccer, which finished the season 16-1-3 and
reached the top 5 in the national polls, were represented by
seniors Conner Burt, Fabian Knopfler and Ben Sippola as well as
sophomore Julian Cardona. All four of those Bulldogs sport a GPA
better than 3.73. Butler women's soccer's starting goalkeeper,
redshirt junior Olivia Walter, was on the women's soccer academic
all-league team and sports the highest GPA of the 11 players
selected.
Volleyball, which won 21 matches and advanced to the NCAA
Tournament this season, had sophomore Gina Vera and senior Jessica
Wolfe honored.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal
academic all-league teams in each of its 19 sports. To be eligible,
a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better and
have completed at least one year at the member institution (24
semester hours or 36 quarter credits).
