Butler University Athletics

Jerry Butler earned three varsity letters in track, one varsity letter in football and participated for one season in cross country as an undergraduate.  He helped the Bulldogs to a football championship in the Indiana Collegiate Conference in 1960, but it was as a member of the track and field team where he really excelled.  He won conference and Little State individual titles in the 100-yard dash, the 440-yard dash and the 220-yard low hurdles, and he set a school record in the 440-yard intermediate hurdles.  He won both the Andy Williams Award for mental attitude and the Scott Ham Award as Butler’s outstanding track performer in 1961.
