John Doctor

John Doctor

Doctor was a leader on what might be the best defensive unit ever to represent Butler football.  The rugged linebacker racked up 161 tackles over his final two seasons, while helping Butler lead the nation (NCAA Division II) in rushing defense in both 1982 and 1983.  He was a first team all-conference performer and the leading tackler on Butler’s 1983 squad, which completed an unbeaten regular season, won the Heartland Collegiate Conference championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs.  The 1983 team held six of its 11 opponents under ten points.  Doctor, who was second on the team in tackles as a junior, set a Butler single game record with 16 assisted tackles against Ashland in 1982, a mark that has been tied twice.
