Young earned national recognition as a distance runner on Butler’s track and cross country teams from 1997 to 2001.  He qualified for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship three times in his four seasons, and he claimed All-America honors with a 22nd place finish at the national meet in 1998.  He was the Midwestern Collegiate Conference runner-up in cross country in both 1999 and 2001.  The Butler distance ace also turned in impressive performances during the track season, including MCC titles in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs in 2001 and an 11th place finish in the 10,000 meter run at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championship.  Young, who was named Butler’s Freshman Male Athlete of the Year in 1997-98, competed internationally at the 1998 IAAF World Junior Championship and the 2009 World Track and Field Championships.
