Lickliter was a two-year varsity letterwinner on Butler’s basketball teams, 1977-79, and he returned to his alma mater as an assistant basketball coach before eventually serving as head basketball coach, 2001-07.  He guided the Bulldogs to a 131-61 (.682) record in six seasons as the head coach, and he led Butler to postseason tournament play four times, including NCAA “Sweet 16” appearances in 2003 and 2007.  His teams won three Horizon League regular season titles, captured championships at the 2001 Top of the World Classic and the 2001 Hoosier Classic and claimed the 2006 NIT Season Tip-Off crown.  The successful coach led Butler into the “Top 25” in three of his six campaigns, including a “Top 10” national ranking in 2006-07.  Lickliter, currently head coach at Marian University in Indianapolis, was named Horizon League Coach of the Year twice, and he was selected as the 2006-07 NABC Division I National Coach of the Year.
