Once you have completed the Registration Form, you will complete steps 1-4 before our in person audition! Please read the entire document- updates to come!
STEP 1: INTRO VIDEO & WAR SONG VIDEO.
Dancers will learn Butler War Song via video, record, and submit to a private youtube link. Once uploaded, dancers will send a link via email to coaching staff. Instructions below:
Video Recording Instructions:
- Intro Video: 15-20 Seconds Introducing yourself
- Please state your name, incoming year, hometown, and a little about yourself! Please end the video with “GO DAWGS!”
- Please record horizontally with enough space to fully see yourself.
- Start recording from top of music to include spiriting in video.
- Video Attire: Any Butler shirt/ leggings or bikers/ Tennis shoes. Poms are optional.
Submitting Video:
- Please upload your video to a private youtube page. Please name the video [First Name Last Name]
- Email link to your video to Paige Burns [pcamp@butler.edu] and Alyssa Hartsock [ahartsock@butler.edu]. Be sure to include your Full Name!
After submitting your video:
- You will receive a confirmation email from Paige/ Alyssa. We will confirm your REGISTRATION NUMBER in response to your war song video. Please save the confirmation number as it will be important for updates as you get closer to auditions.
- Confirmation numbers will be updated on the audition Google Drive.
STEP 2: SET INTERVIEW TIME AND PREPARE PAPERWORK
Butler is changing EMAR systems, new information regarding uploading paperwork will be updated SOON! Updated instructions will be sent via email from Coach Paige.
When you receive your “registration number” from Paige, you will also set a 10 minute interview time with Coaches/ Judges. Questions/ topics will be sent before meetings! Interviews will be very relaxed, do not stress! Interviews will be done via Google Meet and attire is “Butler Shirt”!
Paperwork needed to be try-out eligible:
- Physical Exam
- Within 12 months for Incoming Freshmen (4/25/24-4/25/25)
- Within 6 months for current Butler Students (11/25/24-4/25/25)
- Immunization Records
- Health Insurance Cards
- Butler Athletics Waiver and Emergency Contact [will be on portal]
Athletes can review their current standings with audition paperwork once War Song has been submitted! The registration sheet will be updated regularly, be sure to check often!
STEP 3: COMPLETE ALL STEPS BY APRIL 21ST!

STEP 4: LEARN AUDITION MATERIAL 4/21-4/25
LEARN AND PREPARE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS

- PREPARE 30 SECOND SOLO [Info Below]
- PREPARE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS FOR EVALUATION
- TURN SECTION OF CHOICE 4-6 8 COUNTS
- TRIPLE OR QUAD PIROUETTE
- RIGHT LEFT CENTER LEAPS
- TOE TOUCH [double toe touch optional]
- TURNING DISC
- RIGHT AERIAL (or left)
- Right aerials are strongly recommended for the team. Treat this as a mandatory skill.
- Optional skills to see: front aerial, front/ back walkovers, headsprings, rubber bands, special skills

FRIDAY, APRIL 25TH
Hinkle Fieldhouse

5:30-6:15 Doors Open/ Registration
6:15-7:00 Introductions/ Warm up/ Stretch/ Technique Class
7:00-8:00 Review all audition materials
8:00-9:00 War Song In large groups & Solos
9:00-10:00 Open Gym/ Closing Remarks/ Review Saturday Schedule
Potential Cut after night 1
- Attire: DANCERS CHOICE!
- Can be matching bra/ legging set, think “cute” athleisure
- Outfits do not have to be rhinestoned, but can be if you’d like.
- Hair down & styled and “game day ready” make up!
- Solos:
- Dancers will pick between 3 song options- Jazz/ Hip Hop/ Pom
- Music will be provided and uploaded to the drive by February 1st
- Dancers may alter their attire/appearance if they chose
- Example: added a jacket/ baggy pants if they want to do hip hop. Or tie hair back if they want for their solo.
- You do not need to pack a second outfit or a “solo” outfit. Your athleisure attire is preferred.
- This will be your first impression to the judges, so be sure to showcase what makes you GREAT as a dancer!
- We want to see your strongest style, tricks, personality, all of it!
- Bring: tennis shoes, jazz shoe/ turner, water, snacks, any personal items.
Saturday, April 26th
Hinkle Fieldhouse

9:00-10:00 Warm Up, Stretch, Technique Class, Review materials
10:00-12:30: Eval Technique, Jazz Combo, Game Day Combo
12:30-2:00 Call Backs/ Extra Groups
[Hopefully auditions will be done around 2pm]
If selected for 2025-2026 Team- there will be a team meeting around 5pm.
Attire: All Black (can be leggings, bikers, shorts, sports bra), Slick Back Pony Tails, Game Day Hair/ Makeup
