Bill was a member of the 1945 Indiana High School All Star Basketball Team after graduating from Hope High School. At Butler, he played baseball and basketball. Bill held the Butler Single Season Batting Average record for over 50 years (batting .418). He was named Indiana High School Basketball Coach of the Year in 1970 and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975.
