Biography

2022 – Graduate: Played in 55 games, making 54 starts… Led Butler with 38 runs scored… Came up with 55 hits in 222 at-bats to post a .248 batting average… Ended the year with nine doubles, one triple and four home runs to help generate 37 RBIs… Recorded 78 total bases… Walked 13 times and was hit by a pitch 13 times to raise his on-base percentage to .325… 14 extra base hits helped move his slugging percentage to .351… Stole eight bases… Made 89 putouts in leftfield to post a .978 fielding percentage… Had 13 multi-hit games and eight games with multiple RBIs… Went on an eight-game hitting streak from  3/8-20)… Reached base safely in 15-straight games during the 2022 campaign… Hit a home run over opening weekend at Murray State (2/20)… Had at least one hit and one RBI in each of the first three games of the year… Scored three runs vs. Prairie View A&M (2/26)… Homered twice vs. UConn to end the game with a season-high five RBI (4/30)… Cleared the bases with a double vs. Eastern Michigan (3/19)… Matched his season-high run total with three against Northwestern (3/27)… Hit a triple to post three RBI at St. John’s (4/23)… Ended the St. John’s series going 3-for-5 vs. the Red Storm with a double and three RBI (4/24)… Went 4-for-4 with a home run vs. Xavier (5/7)… Opened the Seton Hall series with a 3-for-5 game that included a double and two RBI (5/19).

2021 – Senior Season: Second Team All-BIG EAST selection… Started in 36 games… Ranked fourth on the team with a .277 batting average… Recorded a team-high 39 hits in 141 at-bats… Led BU with 30 runs scored… Hit six doubles and tied for the team lead with seven home runs… Ranked third on the team with 20 RBI… Led BU with 66 total bases… Walked 13 times and was hit by a pitch six times to improve his on-base percentage to .360… 13 extra base hits boosted his slugging percentage to .468… Led Butler with 10 stolen bases on 11 attempts… Just one miscue in the field to post a .980 percentage on defense… Led BU with 10 multi-hit games… Tied for second on the squad with four multi-RBI games… Best hitting streak covered six games… Reached base safely in nine-straight contests… Scored three runs in his season debut, going 2-for-2 from the plate with a walk and a RBI (3/9)… Ended the Purdue Fort Wayne series with two hits, including his first home run of the season (3/14)… Hit a home run and a double at Seton Hall to go 3-for-5 from the plate with two RBI and a run scored (4/10)… Started off the Xavier series with a long ball and a double (4/16)… Picked up two RBI on one hit in the series finale vs. Villanova (4/25)… Impacted the first Creighton game with three RBI’s and a run scored (5/8)… Homered in game two vs. Creighton (5/8)… Stole a base in four-straight games from 5/14 to 5/15… Played great at Georgetown with a home run, a double and three RBIs (5/21).

2020 – Junior Season: Started in 12 games… Held a .233 batting average with 10 hits in 43 at-bats… Scored eight runs… Recorded seven RBI and 12 total bases… Walked four times and was hit by pitch twice to raise his on-base percentage to .320… Posted a .279 slugging percentage by adding two doubles… Stole one base… Made 16 put-outs for BU in the outfield and tallied one assist… Scored three runs and added an RBI in the win over George Mason (2/15)… Went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base vs. Saint Francis (3/3)… First extra-base hit of the season was an RBI double vs. Western Illinois (2/23)… Went 2-for-4 in game two of the doubleheader with a double and an RBI vs. the Leathernecks… Went three-straight games with an RBI by adding one in the first game at Evansville (2/28)… Went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the final game of the Evansville series (3/1).

2019 – Sophomore Season: Played in 48 games, making 45 starts… Held a .268 batting average with 45 hits in 168 at-bats… Posted 11 doubles, one triple and two home runs to help record 20 RBI… Scored 39 runs… Ended the year with 64 total bases… Walked 16 times to raise his on-base percentage to .364… Stole nine bases… Posted a .381 slugging percentage… Just two errors in the field to post a .966 fielding percentage… Hit .311 against conference foes… Tied for the team lead with a 14-game hitting streak… Had nine multi-hit games… First hit of the season was a double vs. Rider (Feb. 16)… Ended that series going 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and two runs scored (Feb. 16)… Recorded three RBI vs. Anderson (March 27)… Hit two doubles in the home series vs. Creighton (April 12-13)… Went 3-for-4 at Purdue with a run scored (April 16)… First home run of the season came at Xavier (April 19)… Ended the year with a three-run home run at Georgetown (May 18).

2018 – Freshman Season: Played in 43 games, making 35 starts… Held the fifth-highest batting average on the team at .277… Collected 36 hits in 130 at-bats… Came up with five doubles, one triple and one home run… Scored 26 runs… Posted 21 RBI… Ended the year with 46 total bases… Walked nine times… Hit by pitch 10 times… Stole six bases… Held a .364 on-base percentage to go along with a .354 slugging percentage… Made six starts vs. BIG EAST opponents… Played in 10 total games… Held a .227 average against league foes… Made his Butler debut as the team’s designated hitter against Lehigh (Feb. 16)… Scored two runs in the victory… First hit came at UNCW (Feb. 17)… Got the start at third base vs. Lehigh and responded with a 2-for-5 day that included two RBI and two runs scored (Feb. 17)… Scored six runs over Butler’s first four games… First extra-base hit was a double vs. George Mason (Feb. 23)… Went on an eight-game hitting streak from Feb. 17 to March 2… Helped Butler defeat St. Peter’s by going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI (March 4)… Picked up two RBI in the win over Anderson (March 28)… Lone home run was recorded at IU-Kokomo (April 24)… Ended the game going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored… Hit a triple at Eastern Michigan (May 15)… Went 2-for-2 against the Eagles with a walk, two RBI and a run scored… Scored the game-winning run in Butler’s 2-1 BIG EAST Tournament victory over Seton Hall (May 24)… Led off the 13th inning with a single and scored off an RBI from Michael Hartnagel.

High School: Earned two varsity letters in baseball at Neuqua Valley under the direction of head coach Robin Renner...  2017 DuPage Valley Conference Champions and Sectional Champions... Ended the year 35-2-1 overall with a 23-1 mark against conference opponents... 2016 Regional Champions... Ended 2016 with a 24-14-1 overall record...  Two-time DuPage County All-Area First Team selection (2016, 2017)... Two-time DuPage Valley First Team All-Conference honoree... Chicago Tribune First Team All-Area selection (2016, 2017)... Selected as a PBR Second Team All-State Player as a senior... Named Chicago Tribune/Naperville Sun Player of the Year in 2017... Hit .409 his senior season with 52 hits... Led the team with 45 runs scored and 21 doubles... Only committed five errors in 130 chances... Set the all-time career program record for doubles (37) and ranks second all-time in school history with 106 hits... Set the single-season record for plate appearances in 2016... Holds the single-season record for doubles and defensive fielding percentage... Voted as Wildcat Player of the Year by coaches and teammates in 2016 & 2017... Hit a home run in his first varsity at-bat against Collierville... Hit two home runs against Romeoville... Led his team in extra base hits in both 2016 and 2017. Played club baseball for the 29ers... Personal: Son of Jim and Patty Gargano... Has two sisters, Ally & Christina... Majoring in Business and Marketing.

Why I Choose Butler: It was a combination of academics, location, a great coaching staff, and playing baseball in a competitive BIG EAST Conference.
