Mason Cathey, who will be in her third year with the Bulldogs,accepted the assistant coaching position in 2010-11. Prior tocoming to Butler, she served as the head track coach at CentralFlorida. She also served an assistant coaching stint atDuke.
In addition, Cathey is a post-collegiate full time runner. Shenow competes for Saucony. While coaching the Bulldogs, sheregularly trains with the women's team. While at Butler, she hasposted personal bests at every distance: the 800 meter, 1500 meter,3000 meter and 5000 meter runs.
She recently acheived her lifetime best mark for the 3000 metersteeplechase at the 2011 USA Outdoor Championships, whichwere held at the University of Oregon from June 23-26. She posted atime 9.53:56 in the semi-finals of the competition, which placedher at third in her heat. She went on to race in the finals, whereshe placed eighth. Cathey placed fourth in the Women's 3,000 MeterSteeplechase at the 2011 Pan Am Games.
Cathey attended Florida, where she was a member of the track andfield and cross country squads. She earned her undergraduatedegree in 2004 and a Master's Degree in Applied Physiology &Kinesiology in 2006.
