
Ashley Hayes, a native of Kokomo,Ind., was hired at Butler as an assistant coach in 2011. Her mainresponsibilities at Butler are as recruiting coordinator anddeveloping perimeter players. Prior to coming to Butler, Hayesspent three seasons at Murray State, where she helped coach theteam to 45 wins. She also played collegiately at MSU from2003-07.
Hayes assisted in all aspects ofthe women's basketball program at Murray State, working with bothperimeter and post players while overseeing many administrativeareas. She was also co-director of the team's summer basketballcamps. While at Murray State, Hayes coached four CoSIDA ESPN TheMagazine Academic All-Americans and four All-Ohio Valley Conferenceplayers.
MSU's best season with Hayes on thebench was 2008-09, when the Racers finished 23-9 and advanced tothe second round of the WNIT. The 2009 MSU team won the OVC regularseason title and posted a 14-0 mark at home. The team was ranked inthe nation's top 10 in scoring and led the country in team freethrow shooting (.826).
Before her three seasons at MSU,Hayes coached the 2007-08 year at UNC-Greensboro.
Hayes, who played at both Westernand Kokomo High Schools, was a two-time team captain during herplaying career in Murray. She finished second in school historywith 143 made 3-point field goals while also finishing second for asingle game (8) and season (67). Hayes was twice named OVC Playerof the Week and was an honor roll student-athlete.
In high school, Hayes led KokomoHigh School to a 26-0 record and a state championship in 2003. Shewas second team all-state and a McDonald's All-American nominee.She played her first two seasons at Western High School, where sheonce scored 43 points in a game.
Hayes earned her bachelor's degreein advertising with a minor in marketing from Murray State in2007.
