Latrell Fleming joined the Butler women’s basketball coaching staff in May of 2022. The Bulldogs have reached the WNIT postseason field in two of the three seasons with Fleming on staff.
The Milwaukee native is heavily involved in scouting, scheduling, and post-play development at BU. He and Austin Parkinson coached together for eight seasons at IUPUI before Fleming arrived on campus. During that time, the Jaguars went 149-60 overall.
In April of 2022, IUPUI forward Macee Williams was selected in the third round of the WNBA Draft. The Phoenix Mercury selected the four-time Horizon League Player of the Year with the 32nd pick making her the first WNBA Draft pick in IUPUI History.
The 2021-22 campaign at IUPUI was memorable in many ways. The Jaguars won the regular season title and tournament championship to make their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Fleming helped the Jags win a school record 14-straight games from Jan. 2 to Feb. 17 against Horizon League competition.
The program also won the regular season and tournament championship during the 2019-20 season, but postseason action was eliminated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, Fleming was on staff for six postseasons at IUPUI, with two of those trips set to take on the NCAA Tournament field.
Prior to his position at IUPUI, Fleming spent two years on the coaching staff at Northern Illinois (2013-15). He began his coaching career at Milwaukee as the program’s video coordinator in 2012-13.
Fleming is a Wisconsin graduate that worked as a student assistant coach with the Badgers under the guidance of Head Coach Bo Ryan from 2001-06. During that time, Wisconsin won three Big Ten Championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times. Highlighting that stretch was the team’s run to the Elite Eight in 2004-05.
Fleming was set to play for the Badgers after a stellar high school career that included winning a State Championship at Dominican in 2001. The McDonald’s All-American nominee was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy heading into his freshman season and therefore was unable to participate.
