Sarah Lyon

Sarah Lyon, ATC

Sarah Lyon joined the Butler sports medicine staff in 2024 as an assistant athletic trainer. She works with the Bulldogs’ women’s basketball program.

Lyon arrived at Butler after stops at Newberry College and USA Basketball. She spent 12 years at Newberry working with all of their sport teams as the senior athletic trainer. She helped grow the department from three ATC's to nine and worked closely with the program's nationally-ranked men's lacrosse program, women's soccer and women's basketball.

Lyon revised Newberry’s policy and procedures and created ADD/ADHD and concussion education paperwork for athletes and coaches.

Additionally at Newberry, Lyon served as a physician clinic coordinator. She was responsible for patient registration, creating physicians’ weekly clinic schedules, and generating return-to-play forms for athletes, parents and AT staff.

While with USA Basketball, Lyon got to work with the 3X3 that went undefeated in the Americup and went on to win the World Cup in September of 2024.

Lyon graduated summa cum laude from Kean University (N.J) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and minors in Health Education and Psychology in 2010. She was the 2009 recipient of the Hartman-Conco Sports Medicine Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association Scholarship Award.

Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, Lyon continued her educational career at East Stroudsburg University (Pa.) where she earned a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training in the summer of 2011.

Including her work as an athletic trainer, Sarah also served as an adjunct professor in Newberry’s Sports Professions department.

Lyon remains focused on promoting athlete health and preventing injuries through proactive program management. She holds advanced certifications for care in athletic environments and orthopedic clinical settings.
